Championship Rules and Regulations

General

  • no jewelry is permitted during the performance.
  • officials have the right to stop a routine if an athlete is injured during the routine and the injury puts the participant and others at risk if not stopped.  The routine would then be scored to that point and not re-run.
  • the use of minitramps, springboards, or any other height-enhancing apparatus is prohibited.
  • casts of any type are not permitted.  Supportive braces may be worn.
  • all decisions of the judges are final.
  • each competitor must be enrolled at the school he/she is competing for, and must have participated in at least 80% of the regular season games.
  • stunts are limited to two-man height no extension.  Cradles are allowed.  Spotters are required at front and back.

Routine

  • the routine time limit is 2 to 2.5 minutes.  Points will be deducted if routine is not within those limits.
  • timing will begin after the first word.
  • timing will stop when a team or team member gives an ending signal.
  • competitors may do a spirited entrance/exit without being timed or judged.
  • the routine must be "crowd oriented" and include a minimum of one cheer (without music); one sideline chant (that could be used during a game); and dance
  • dance must be age-appropriate, without any provocative or suggestive movements (that is, hip thrust, popping, pumping, etc. of the body).  Points will be deducted for violations.
  • Music must not contain any offensive language.
  • routine should be "support" vs. "performance" oriented.
  • signs are allowed but must not be a safety hazard

Uniforms

  • skirts should not exceed 5 inches above the knee.  No body suits.  No biker shorts.

Scoring

  • each participating school will send one judge
  • after all judges have tallied their score sheets, the highest and lowest scores will be tossed.
  • crowd involvement will not be judged on size/volume of the crowd attending or on amount of yelling from that crowd.  Instead it will be based on content appropriate to encourage participation, and whether the judges are left with the impression that the crowd could catch on and cheer along with the cheerleaders.
